The tourism sector in Venezuela has registered an "important recovery" since 2021, especially in the island state of Nueva Esparta, one of the country’s main destinations, visited by thousands of Russians and Cubans in the last year.
Experts point out that Nueva Esparta, one of the states most affected by the pandemic, is among those that have had the best recovery in Venezuela in tourism activity since the end of 2021. Almost 90,000 people traveled at Easter, occupying in their entirety the "emblematic spaces" of this region, to which Margarita Island belongs.
The minister expects that by the end of this year, 280 direct charter flights to the island from countries such as Russia, Cuba, Poland, Colombia, Italy, and Spain will be carried out, which will generate an increase in income not only in this state but in other destinations in Venezuela.
At the beginning of 2023, Margarita welcomed the first cruise line from Europe in 15 years. The German ship, Amadea, arrived with almost 500 tourists from countries such as Spain, Germany, and France.
