There have always been a constantly great number of travelers from all over the world anxious to decide where to spend their honeymoons, getaways, vacations, business meetings, and all other sorts of outings. While some top 'spots' or travel destinations have had more tourists come and go, the businesses on Mauritius are also certainly doing what they could to ensure that the island nation gets its good share of vacationers as well.

The Bank of Mauritius has its responsibilities in tracking the performance of commerce specifically related to tourism, and at the end of January during this year 2012; they have come up with statistics for 12 months. According to the international news agency Reuters, the Bank of Mauritius has a total of 44.2 billion rupees (or a little more than $1.5 billion) recorded in receipts during this specific time period. They have recorded 39.4 billion rupees during the period before this. That's a 12% increase in income between the start of February 2011 to the end of January 2012.

There are indeed literally more people with more money that have considered making Mauritius their destination. The numbers related to income from tourism specifically for the past January increased by 34%. This rise in revenue was reported even though the Mauritian government reported that there was a 3% drop in people that came in during that period.

Mauritius has recorded approximately 960,000 visitors during 2011. As usual, most of the people who comprised of this number came from or travelled from European countries. However, it can be said that the officials in charge of tourism in the island are making measures to make Mauritius a destination to consider for travelers coming from the other parts of the world as well - they aim to see the number of visitors to pass 1,000,000 for the year 2012. An increase in travelers will result in a definite timeline for improvements in the tourism industry.

It is so evident in the many breathtaking types of scenery all over the island, from tranquil beaches to wild jungle. The weather in this African nation is pleasant for a majority of visitors around the world.
