According to Chilean tourism authorities, more than 5 million foreign tourists visited Chile in 2024. This figure represents a 40.4% increase compared to 2023 and marks the highest number of visitors since the pandemic, confirming 2024 as the year of tourism recovery in Chile.
Verónica Pardo, the Undersecretary of Tourism, stated, "We are very pleased to announce that 2024 marked the definitive recovery of tourism in Chile, with 5,239,233 foreign tourists—a 40.4% increase from 2023 and a 16.0% increase from 2019. December was the best month of the year, with over 647,000 arrivals, reflecting a 47.3% increase. This has led to an upward adjustment in our projections for the summer season. These figures showcase the collaborative efforts of both the public and private sectors to position Chile as an attractive, sustainable, and safe destination worldwide."
In December, 647,743 international arrivals exceeded the sector's expectations. As a result, the projections for foreign tourist arrivals for the 2025 high season have also been revised upwards—from an initial estimate of 2,100,292 to 2,225,773 arrivals, representing a 22.5% increase compared to the 2024 summer season.
In 2024, Argentina topped the list for international arrivals, sending 2,088,389 tourists to Chile. This represents an increase of 73.2% compared to 2023 (1,205,662 arrivals) and a 45.5% increase compared to 2019. Notably, Brazil also made significant strides, recording 787,036 tourists, which marks a growth rate of 62.0% compared to the previous year—its best performance historically between 2013 and 2024. Regarding market share, Argentina accounted for 39.9% of arrivals in Chile, followed by Brazil at 15.0% and the United States at 4.8%.
In addition to celebrating these positive figures for foreign tourist arrivals in 2024, projections for domestic tourism in Chile during the high season of 2025 indicate that Chileans are expected to make between 25 and 30 million trips with overnight stays within the country.
