Now that more and more people are opting for flexible work environments and looking for new “views” for their “workations” in 2022, a term used to refer to vacations that combine pleasure and telework, Kayak reveals what are the best countries in the world to work remotely.

The Travel and Work Index could be a source for those who are looking for new locations to set up their office away from home, either temporarily or for longer periods.

Recent Kayak’s study focused on telecommuting – that is they decided to evaluate the destinations that are easier to work remotely and at the same time offer some leisure activities. They analyzed 111 countries and classified them taking into account 22 factors from six different categories: travel, local prices, health and safety, remote work, social life and weather.

Thus, the 10 best countries when it comes to offering good conditions for telecommuting and opportunities to travel according to the study, are:

1. Portugal
2. Spain
3. Romania
4. Mauritius
5. Japan
6. Malta
7. Costa Rica
8. Panama
9. Czech Republic
10. Germany

Portugal, the Best Country in the World to Telecommute

Portugal leads the world rankings thanks to its high scores in all the categories analyzed, including great weather, plenty of places to go out, low crime rates and a relatively low cost of living.

Portugal also offers a visa for digital nomads and the local population has a high level of English which is very attractive to travelers.

Spain, Named the Second-best Country in the World

Spain occupies second place in the ranking thanks to its large number of bars and restaurants per capita, combined with high-speed internet service, numerous coworking spaces, and visas for freelance workers. Other aspects for which Spain earns points in this ranking are its lively nightlife and the fact that it is an “LGBTQ+ friendly” country.
