According to the city administration, hotels and other accommodation providers in Munich reported 2.1 million overnight stays for August. This figure represents an increase of nearly 20% compared to August 2022 and is the highest number recorded since records began in 1912. Many visitors were from the UK, the Netherlands, and Scandinavia, with the number of overnight stays from these countries rising by tens of thousands each.

Arena Dismantled Following Adele Concerts

Adele recently held ten concerts in a specially built temporary arena in Munich. Following these performances in August, Messe München is taking a break from hosting concerts. Likewise, Adele will take a break after her Munich shows—her only European concerts since 2016. The megastar said farewell to Munich about two weeks ago.

The temporary arena, which accommodated 75,000 fans per concert, has been dismantled. The 17-meter-high grandstands, the massive stage with a 96-meter catwalk, and what the organizers claimed was the largest outdoor LED wall in the world—measuring 220 meters long—are all gone. The entire Adele World has also been taken down, including the food park and Ferris wheel.

Coldplay Enjoyed Sold-out Concerts in the Olympic Stadium

Coldplay performed three sold-out concerts at the Olympic Stadium in August. The British band, fronted by singer Chris Martin, attracted countless fans who gathered on the Olympic Mountain in perfect weather. Promoting their successful ninth album, this tour began over two years ago in South America and is set to conclude in New Zealand in November.

September and August have been one of the busiest months in Munich this year, as observed at Munich Airport. Although passenger numbers and cargo volumes continue to grow significantly, the increase has not been as pronounced as in the year's first half. From January to the end of September, the number of passengers rose 12.5 percent year-on-year, reaching 31.4 million, according to the airport. Additionally, the number of take-offs and landings increased by nine percent, totaling 247,000 flight movements, while cargo volume also saw a nine percent rise, amounting to 228,000 tons.

Passenger Numbers Are Almost at the Pre-Corona Level

August, with 4.2 million passengers, and September, with 4.1 million passengers, were the busiest months so far this year. However, the passenger growth in the first half of the year was even stronger than in the third quarter. In the first six months, the number of passengers increased by 14.8 percent, while growth in the past three months was only 9.2 percent. Compared to the pre-COVID year of 2019, Munich Airport achieved 89 percent of its passenger volume in the third quarter.
