This summer, Paris will draw global attention to the Olympic Games. The French capital, known for its rich cultural heritage, will host athletes and spectators worldwide.
Preply studied the most popular and least appreciated tourist sites in Paris. Using reviews from Tripadvisor, the online language learning platform examined over 150 places of interest, choosing those with reviews from over 1,000 visitors. The final ranking is based on a ratio calculation. Ratings of 1, 2, and 3 stars were considered disappointing experiences, while 4-5 star ratings were considered positive experiences based on the overall sentiment and specific comments in the reviews.
The results of this survey are truly unexpected. For instance, the Eiffel Tower, a symbol of Paris and a must-see for many, is surprisingly not at the top of the ranking of the most popular attractions.
Among the ten favorite tourist sites are emblematic monuments such as the Opéra Garnier and Notre-Dame de Paris (9th) and charming places such as the Jardin du Luxembourg and the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district. However, the Eiffel Tower is not in the top 10; it is only 12th in this ranking, with (still) 92% of positive opinions.
The Musée d'Orsay (96% positive opinions) is acclaimed for its Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art collections, including works by Monet, Van Gogh, and Renoir. Housed in a renovated former train station, it combines history and modernity. In addition, the view of the Seine is a popular asset for tourists. In the second place, the Pont Alexandre III is prized by visitors for its architectural elegance and sumptuous artistic details, making it a symbol of Paris. Located in the city's heart, it offers magnificent views of the Eiffel Tower and is a must-see place to walk along the Seine.
Completing this podium, the Jardin du Luxembourg is a true gem that is appreciated for its unparalleled charm and elegance. The lawns of this French garden and its green chairs beckon you to relax. Visitors enjoy its diverse activities, such as miniature sailboats, children's playgrounds, art exhibits, and outdoor concerts.
However, it's important to note that not all Parisian sites resonate with visitors. Famous places like the Moulin Rouge, the Palace of Versailles, and the Champs-Élysées disappoint many tourists who visit the capital annually.
The "most beautiful avenue in the world" has received 21% negative reviews. Visitors consider the Champ de Mars and the Place de la Concorde dirty, crowded, and unsafe.
The Moulin Rouge ranked as the 3rd least appreciated site, with 25% of opposing opinions. It is criticized for its high prices, overloaded and impersonal atmosphere, and loss of authenticity, far from the expected elegance and mystery.
