MARRAKECH: NUMBER OF OVERNIGHT STAYS UP BY 10%

The number of overnight stays recorded in the various classified tourist accommodation establishments in the city of Marrakech increased by 10% during the first nine months of the current year, compared to the same period in 2017.

According to statistics published by the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) of Marrakech, a total of 6,333,482 overnight stays were recorded at the end of last September, compared to 5,768,370 during the same period last year. The occupancy rate was 58%, compared to 52% during the period January-September 2017.

As for the average length of stay during the first nine months of 2018 in the ochre city, it was 3 days, which is the same as the average recorded during the same period in 2017. In September alone, the number of overnight stays in Marrakech reached 729,035 compared to 678,813 in September 2017, an increase of 7%.

By nationality, the French made the biggest number of overnight stays during the first nine months of the current year, with 1,822,033 compared to 1,638,705 a year earlier (+11%). The British are in 2nd position with 808,461 overnight stays (+1%), followed by the Germans with 319,721 overnight stays (+31%), the Spanish with 221,498 overnight stays (+46%), the Arab market with 149,718 overnight stays (+3%) and the Americans (138,625 overnight stays/+24%), while the Belgian market fell by 2% (136,119 overnight stays).

In terms of ranking by tourist accommodation unit, 5-star hotels rank first with 2,060,583 nights, followed by 4-star hotels (1,761,635 nights) and hotel clubs (1,361,157 nights), according to the same source.
