One of the most famous European theme parks, Europa-Park, located in south-western Germanyannounced it surpassed the 5 million visitors mark last year.
According to Roland Mack, owner of the park, 2014 was the best year in the history of the company.
"The new attraction, Arthur in the Minimoy’s Kingdom, created in collaboration with the French author and director Luc Besson, is proving a huge success," said Mack. This success also translates into a 20% increase in the amount of French visitors.
The winter period seems also quite successful with over 500,000 visitors of the park in December. As for accommodation, the hotel occupancy rate remains high with the number of overnight stays and length of stay steadily increasing.
Europa-Park plans to open a new water park within two or three years. Set up on an area of 30 hectares, the construction work should last between 18 and 24 months with an investment of 300 million euros.
Targeting families, this water park will feature an interior area but also an outdoor area with a beach and green spaces. Wave pools, giant slides, water games as well as restaurants, shops and hotels are also planned in the new complex that can accommodate between 400 and 600,000 people per year.
