According to a survey by the German Travel Association (DRV), travel agencies and tour operators in the country are positive about this year’s summer season.

German travel agencies and tour operators expect healthy summer business in 2022. More than half of all current bookings are already for the coming summer season, the German Travel Association (DRV) reported based on a survey of its members.

However, only one in ten businesses expects summer sales to be at or above the level of the pre-Corona year 2019. For the full year 2022, only one in 20 respondents even expects to reach the pre-crisis level again. 43 percent expect this to happen in 2023 and 37 percent think they will have to wait until 2024.

A majority of 54% believe that further financial support from politicians beyond March 2022 is necessary to secure the company's economic existence. The main reason for this is the uncertainties surrounding the new Corona variant Omikron.

"The new German government should therefore promptly, in addition to targeted measures, re-sharpen and extend the necessary aid for the industry, if that would be necessary," said DRV President Norbert Fiebig according to a statement.

According to DRV, the industry comprises around 10,000 travel agencies and 2,500 tour operators. 550 companies in the travel industry took part in the survey in mid-December.
