The Dominican Tourism, David Collado, announced that the tourism industry in the country had achieved remarkable numbers. In July of this year alone, 792,981 non-residents arrived, making it the best month in the country's history. This number surpasses the previous record set in July and December of 2022, the only months the country welcomed over 700,000 tourists. Minister Collado stated that the number of visitors last month was impressive, with 941,541 arrivals. This figure includes 792,981 tourists who came by air and 148,560 visitors who arrived by sea, making it a historic July month.
It has been reported that the Dominican Republic has seen a record-breaking number of visitors in the first seven months of this year. A total of 6,295,667 people visited the country during this period. Of this total, 4,879,656 were inbound tourists, and the remaining 1,416,011 were cruise passengers. This is the first time the country has received so many visitors in January-July.
According to the Dominican tourism minister, out of the 792,981 tourists, 652,506 were foreigners, while 140,475 were Dominicans. This indicates a growth of 34% compared to 2019, 41% compared to 2021, and 8% compared to the previous year.
The minister also highlighted that the cruise industry in the country has seen a similar increase in visitors. In July alone, there were 148,560 cruise passengers arriving by sea. The minister emphasized that the January-July period saw a record-breaking 1,416,011 cruise passengers arriving in the Dominican Republic, a milestone in the history of tourism in the country.
In July, the United States was the top source market for Dominican tourism, accounting for 54% of visitors, followed by Canada at 8%, Puerto Rico at 5.1%, and Colombia at 3.7%.
