Tourists who are tired of staying in ordinary hotels will love these; fancy staying on a boat, in prison, a castle? Come to Denmark.
Denmark is an unbelievably friendly and charming country, full of inspiration and a feel for the bizarre. It comes as no surprise that Denmark is now home to several more than unusual hotels that attract a lot of attention. Especially travelers who are looking for more than just an ordinary night at an ordinary hotel are now free to choose from a variety of exceptional options.
Boat hotels are not exactly today’s news, though the CPH Living is the first of its kind in Scandinavia. Its greatest asset is its location – the very centre of Copenhagen. Hotel guests are in the center of action and have the finest views of the city from the sundeck. The rooms are wonderfully decorated and leave a great impression on anyone spending the night.
Den Gamle Arrest in Ribe is another, very different, hotel. It was built in 1546 and initially served as the residence for the assisting priest at local Cathedral. Later, it was turned into a girl’s school, to eventually become a prison – for more than a hundred years. In 1990, the building was sold and its present owner decided to turn its intriguing history into its advantage and now, the hotel lures guests who cannot wait to spend a night in the old prison cells. There is a shop which features some unusual ladies clothing, a cozy café and naturally, the multi-storey hotel itself.
Those who like a bit of royal taste will appreciate a night in a castle – the Danske Slotte og Herregaarde, or Association of Danish Castles and Manor Houses, offers more than 50 properties which possess all the charm and glamour to satisfy even the most demanding guest.
Hotel Fox is also one of the exceptional examples of Danish inspiration and a sense for experiment. For the launch of the new Volkswagen Fox, artists of various skills turned this ordinary building in the center of Copenhagen into the most creative and exciting hotel. It is a great place to stay, full of energy and life and rightly deserves all the praise.
