Well I wouldn't say that Dublin is very safe!!!
What about the Canary Islands we are very safe particulaly some of the least known such as Fuerteventura, La gomera, La palma come
I was expexting that Malta would be high up on this list. Cannot believe that Irelanf is safer the Malta. How was this study carried out? Was Malta included in the study?
I do not think the entire globe is covered in this surveyor study. Sultanate of Oman in that matter is well known as a peaceful destination with friendly and hospitable people and crime rate is almost nil as far as tourism is concerned.
Actually the murder rate in Iceland is quite bit higher than 0! We have a rate of 1.03, which is higher than in both Norway and Denmark.
Also some of our 700-800 policemen carry guns and all of them are trained to use them.
To Petur: Thanks for the information - I was thinking it quite incredible that there would be zero homicide rate.
iceland is a very good country to come to..if you want peace and be safe..going in to the country and stay in those summerhouses..which are rented the whole year..is fantastic..thumb up.
Scotland has a bad reputation but it's murder rates are 2.1 per 100,000 which is lower than one of the countries listed here.
I'm concerned that this gives the wrong information to tourists. I love my country (New Zealand) but saying that 'violent crime is almost unknown' is simply not true. Such misinformation is dangerous for potential tourists and sadly, we have had a number of tourists murdered here. Statements like the ones in this article put tourists in potential danger by concealing the fact that in New Zealand, like most places in the world, you need to be cautious and mindful of your own security. Do come and visit our beautiful country but take care too.
Someone else has aleady rubbished your comment "violent crime is almost unknown" in New Zealand, so I thought I would take 30 seconds to check your other New Zealand falsehood "There are no shark attacks recorded on humans "
New Zealand has a relatively high incidence of shark attacks. Record keepers differentiate between provoked and unprovoked attacks: sharks which have been speared or taken on a line will naturally defend themselves by attacking the person on the other end. Since 1852 there have been 44 recorded unprovoked attacks in New Zealand (compared with 39 in the whole of Europe since 1847).
Why isn't Germany on list?! Petur from Iceland, even though you are from Iceland you have your facts wrong, your homicide rate is 0 something per cent per hundred thousand people but not 0 as in zero homicides, I know because I have visited Iceland myself even though Germany is safe, no bias here just a fact, I still felt safer in your country Iceland!!!!
Shouldn't Austria be in this list? It is very similar to the conditions in Switzerland although I agree that the Suisse get a nod better. But I would choose Austria because of the better cost of living in the rural areas that are not so touristed. And....consider Canada or rural parts of the USA. Sometimes larger countries are better -- so long as you stay away from the more dangerous places. And...remember you can take all the precautions, make all the plans, have all the calculations...but that is just your human thinking. Involve the God of the Bible. Ask Him for His wisdom in your choices for where to live, vocation, and all else. Trust Him. He never fails.
What about Hong Kong. I\'m a Bfrit who has lived here for 30 years, and it beats the lot of \'em for safety. I haven\'t even seen a street fight in all this time.
The write-up about Cyprus is accurate. I've lived here and I can tell you that it is a very safe place for everybody. You can leave your door open and nothing will be lost when you get back home.
Cyprus has excellent weather too. Simply a fantastic place
As for the safest or most dangerous! Well, crime is every where! Want facts then visit Sites like the CIA fact sheet or other! I laughed when I read the article New Zealand has such low crime rate or Singapore is so safe because of its zero tolerance to crime! Where there's zero tolerance to crime, the people just get smarter at avoiding detection!
I live in a county where most streets have police cameras mounted, literally every where you go there are cameras monitoring the public even on isolated country roads and some mountain trails!
I've seen less violence here then many other countries which I've visited, but does that mean that there is no violence here? People just get sneakier at covering their tracks!
Aside from the recent earthquakes, we also have the odd lahar (volcanic mud flow), flooding and generally unpredictable weather because the islands are so narrow. It's a great place but this articles very inaccurate!
Germany's homicide rate in 2010 is per hundred thousand people is 0.5% making it not only one of lowest in Europe but worldwide however!!!! I would have thought Germany would have thought it would then be safe by anyone/anybody's standards, so why Germany doesn't qualify to be on list is beyond me!!!! Petur from Iceland, I felt much safer in Iceland than in Denmark and Norway even though their homicide rates per hundred thousand people is similar to my country Germany!!!!

I was wondering why this list doesn't have Finland. Helsinki has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. I thought Canada should also be on the list.
It sounds like the factors this writer has considered is merely the homicide rates, and this is why Ireland is supposedly so safe. There are many other things to consider.
I decided this website is a tad more accurate.
Iceland is a very safe country, i haven\'t been there but have seen images of it and have heard people who have been there and are from there and who have lived there, it\'s a beautiful country with very high standards of living and is very clean and very safe and is so safe and the crime there is so low that no one there ever locks their doors, crime there is so low and so rare that every crime that gets reported there makes the news headlines, murders are also extremely rare there and theres only one murder there every five years, i would love to go there and wouldn\'t mind living there to, Iceland today is what Australia use to be like in the 50\'s and 60\'s, Australia use to be a very safe country and use to have a very low crime rate sadly it doesn\'t anymore, today Australia has a high crime rate and is full of drugs gangs thugs louts hoons and bogans, Australia has gotten really bad and is turning into a hell hole, the majority of people here are also not very nice and are rude ignorant loud abnoxious selfish shallow superficial and materialistic, especially the women here, Australian women are the worst when it comes to being selfish shallow superficial and materialistic.
The rate is actually 0.9, not 2.0 and even in the past few years has never been that high.
I am British but have been in western Canada for 6 months Vancouver area and in my opinion and many others that we/they would not venture outside at night in many areas because of gang battles, shooting, knifings etc
